Color and weave is the term used to describe the technique whereby the interactions of the colors in the warp and weft produce motifs that are optical illusions and do not resemble the underlying weaving structure used to produce them. We explore how a color and weave comes about, some motifs that can be formed with plain weave and twills, and how changing color rotations change the motifs. We also look at the technical aspects of weaving them: color contrast needed to make them work, selvages, beat, scale, and how to avoid errors. Approaches to investigate more are discussed.
