As when using the perfect word in writing, weaving a project with the perfect structure maximizes its function. Fiber and yarn matter; color adds a personal dimension. All of these are discussed along with warp sett and weft beat. But there are no pat answers on how to match a structure with function; instead examples are used as to what the best use for a structure may be, and alternatively, what factors may help us in breaking the rules. Determining the goal of a project, planning it, making sure that the number of warp ends in the width of the piece matches the repeats of the weaving structure, and finally evaluating the end result are all necessary; these steps are all discussed. Reference guides to structure, sett and planning flow sheets are included at the end.
